A 39-year-old man from Bengaluru lost Rs 7.66 lakh in a deepfake investment scam involving manipulated videos featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Sudha Murty, and Anant Ambani. The victim encountered these videos on July 10, 2026, which falsely promoted online investment opportunities. After clicking a link, he transferred an initial amount of Rs 22,000 and was subsequently contacted by scammers posing as representatives of a company called 'One Two Markets'. Over the next two weeks, he transferred approximately Rs 7.6 lakh, believing he was generating profits. When he attempted to withdraw his funds, the scammers demanded more money, prompting him to report the incident to the police. An FIR was filed on September 19, 2026, and an investigation is ongoing. This incident reflects a growing trend of cyber fraud using AI-generated deepfake content to mislead investors.
