The Chesapeake City Council approved a federal grant application to support the construction of a dedicated pier for material transport. The manufacturing facility, expected to be operational by 2028, will produce high-voltage undersea power cables connecting offshore wind farms to the mainland. The project aims to create hundreds of jobs and has already received state grants totaling $8.8 million. The facility will also manufacture copper rods, rare-earth magnets, and magnet wires for various industries.
