China Amends Cybersecurity Law to Enhance AI Safety and Enforcement

On October 28, 2025, China approved significant amendments to its Cybersecurity Law, the first major update since its introduction in 2017. The revised law, effective January 1, 2026, introduces a tiered penalty regime for cybersecurity violations, aligns with the Personal Information Protection Law and the Data Security Law, and incorporates provisions to support AI innovation while enhancing enforcement mechanisms.
