China Ships World's Largest Offshore Wind Converter Station for Installation

On May 27, 2026, China shipped the Haifeng Heart, the world's largest offshore converter station, from Nantong to Yangjiang. Built by Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (ZPMC), it will connect two offshore wind farms to the national grid, delivering approximately six billion kWh of renewable electricity annually. The station measures 85.5 meters long and weighs 25,000 tons, constructed using a modular fabrication approach. It features a single-unit transmission capacity of 2,000 megawatts and utilizes the world's highest-voltage offshore wind flexible direct-current transmission system at ±500 kilovolts. This project supports China's decarbonization efforts and sets six industry records, marking significant advancements in offshore wind technology.
