L&Q, a major London housing association, suffered a cyberattack that compromised emails and webform messages from approximately 12,000 residents. The organization has informed the Information Commissioner’s Office and the Regulator of Social Housing about the incident. Currently, L&Q's website is down, with only limited information available for affected residents. The attack did not appear to access financial information, and the wider databases containing personal and operational information remain secure. L&Q's chief executive, Fiona Fletcher-Smith, stated that immediate steps were taken to isolate and secure the website, and a comprehensive investigation is underway. Affected residents were contacted via email last week, and L&Q is advising them to use telephone or email for assistance while the website is unavailable. There is an increased risk of fraud attempts and phishing due to the incident.
