Education Sector Faces High Cyberattack Intensity Amid Open Network Vulnerabilities

SonicWall's 2026 Education Protect Brief reveals that the education sector has the highest per-device attack intensity, with 81,879 IPS hits recorded in the first half of 2026. A single VoIP exploitation signature, SIPVicious, accounted for over 50% of intrusion prevention events, totaling 90 million hits. The report highlights that education networks are particularly vulnerable due to their open architecture, which includes student devices and public-facing portals. Notably, 16,242 malware hits per device were reported, nearly 3.5 times higher than in retail. The Hikvision IP camera command injection vulnerability was detected on 605 devices across 28% of education networks.
