EU Employees Face High Cyber Threats at Work, Eurobarometer Survey Reveals

A Eurobarometer survey published today indicates that 75% of EU employees encountered cyber threats at work, primarily phishing attempts (39%). Other reported threats include personal data theft (18%), password theft (16%), malware attacks (17%), and AI-generated scams (15%). Despite high awareness of cyber risks, with 83% acknowledging serious consequences, only 48% can identify AI-generated fake videos. Only 18% of employees believe their organization has not experienced any cyber incidents. The survey highlights a significant gap between awareness and practice, with many employees failing to implement basic cybersecurity measures. Training participation is notably lower in smaller organizations, despite 85% expressing interest in enhancing their cybersecurity skills. The survey was conducted online from April 27 to May 8, 2026, involving 25,747 EU citizens.
