The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) of Pakistan has launched a dedicated dark web investigation unit at its National Command and Control Centre (NC3) to track and prosecute criminals operating on encrypted online platforms. This unit will utilize advanced technologies, including blockchain forensics and open-source intelligence (OSINT), to identify suspects and trace suspicious cryptocurrency transactions. The primary focus will be on dismantling networks involved in human trafficking and illegal migration. The establishment of this unit is a strategic move to counter the growing threats posed by the dark web, which is known for facilitating various illicit activities such as drug trafficking, cybercrime, and terrorism. FIA Director General Dr. Usman Anwar emphasized the need for technological capabilities and international cooperation to effectively address these challenges. The unit will work closely with the existing cryptocurrency investigation unit to enhance investigative outcomes.
