Final checks are being conducted on the first unit of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant in Mersin, Türkiye, as it approaches commissioning. Sergei Butckikh, General Manager of Akkuyu Nuclear Inc., confirmed that all systems are undergoing necessary inspections and preparations for the hydraulic tests and loading of dummy fuel rods. The plant, built by Russia's Rosatom, consists of four units with a total capacity of 4,800 MW. The first unit is expected to come online in the coming months, contributing to approximately 10% of Türkiye's electricity demand. Construction continues on the second, third, and fourth units, with significant milestones achieved, including the installation of a 350-ton-capacity crane in the turbine hall of the third unit. The project is a critical step in Türkiye's energy diversification strategy.
