GeoForce Technical Services has been contracted by Reach Subsea to conduct geotechnical surveys for the Shetland HVDC Link 2 project, which aims to connect Shetland to mainland Scotland with a 330-kilometer cable capable of transmitting 2 gigawatts of renewable energy. The project is part of a larger strategy to enhance the energy transmission network in northern Scotland, with a total investment of £5 billion expected by 2035. The survey work started in late February 2026 and is set to conclude in August 2026. GeoForce's responsibilities include seabed characterization, sediment analysis, and core penetration testing to inform engineering decisions for cable installation. The managing director of GeoForce emphasized the importance of this project for the UK's clean energy future. The cable will be produced at a new manufacturing facility by Sumitomo in northeast Scotland.
