Following months of political deadlock, Ali al-Zaidi was nominated as Iraq's prime minister in May 2026. A survey conducted by the Independent Institute for Administration and Civil Society Studies (IIACSS) revealed that 77% of Iraqis are satisfied with al-Zaidi's selection, and 75% believe he is capable of fulfilling his responsibilities. However, concerns about widespread corruption persist, with 60% of respondents indicating it is a significant issue, rising to 69% among Shia Iraqis. Unemployment remains a challenge, especially among the youth. The survey, conducted from August 5 to 31, 2026, involved a nationally representative sample of 2,056 Iraqis. The early approval ratings suggest a honeymoon period, but the government's ability to address long-standing issues will determine the sustainability of this support.
