KT and Police Launch AI System to Combat Phishing, Blocking Nearly 10,000 Numbers

KT announced the full operation of an AI-based phishing detection and blocking system called 'Circuit Breaker' in collaboration with the National Police Agency, effective January 2026. This system aims to preemptively block phishing numbers rather than responding post-incident. The AI model developed by KT's Future Network Research Institute has shown that 75% of phishing damage reports are linked to numbers identified by the system. Since its implementation, 9,822 suspected phishing numbers have been blocked, leading to a 25% reduction in phishing reports, from 10,496 to 7,843. Notably, impersonation voice phishing dropped by 44%, and loan-type voice phishing decreased by 40%. The initiative marks a significant shift in combating phishing, moving from reactive to proactive measures. KT plans to enhance cooperation with the police for a 24-hour real-time response system.
