Lancaster University has launched a £2 million nuclear facility control room simulator aimed at enhancing education in nuclear engineering and cyber security. This facility, the first of its kind in the UK, is designed to provide immersive learning experiences and simulate various reactor designs. Funded by the Office for Students, it addresses critical skills gaps in the nuclear sector. The simulator will enable students to practice theoretical knowledge and experience scenarios, including potential cyber attacks on nuclear facilities. The facility is expected to be operational for teaching at the start of the academic year. Professor Rebecca Lingwood emphasized its role in preparing students for a low-carbon energy sector and enhancing national energy security.
