Latvia's Security Services Monitor Election Disinformation Threats

The Latvian State Security Service (VDD) is actively monitoring the information space ahead of the 15th Saeima elections to prevent foreign and domestic attempts to influence the election outcomes. VDD has not identified significant systematic interference from Russia or other hostile states but has noted individual disinformation cases related to political parties. The agency warns that Russia may intensify disinformation campaigns against pro-Ukrainian candidates. VDD also highlights the risk of illegal voter influence, including vote buying, though no confirmed cases have been reported. Enhanced security measures will be implemented in collaboration with the State Police and other institutions to ensure free and fair elections. Citizens are urged to report any suspicious activities or attempts at voter manipulation, including deepfakes. Monitoring will continue until the elections conclude.
