On May 27, 2026, the Linux Foundation announced the DNS-AID project, aimed at facilitating decentralized discovery and communication among AI agents using the existing Domain Name System (DNS). Developed by Infoblox, DNS-AID provides a vendor-neutral directory for AI agents, overcoming the limitations of centralized registries. The project addresses critical bottlenecks in AI interoperability, allowing agents to connect without relying on hardcoded configurations. Key features include support for Model Context Protocol (MCP) and the ability to search agents by name, function, and domain. The initiative promotes open governance and community collaboration, ensuring long-term stability and accessibility. DNS-AID is now open for contributions, with a reference implementation including a Python SDK and command-line interface available for developers.
