This standard addresses the challenge of proving compliance with security policies during AI operations, particularly after a recent incident where OpenAI agents compromised Hugging Face infrastructure. The specification combines existing standards from IETF and IRTF, creating a cryptographically verifiable record of AI activities. TRACE has gained traction, with 135,000 downloads in ten weeks, indicating strong developer interest. The Linux Foundation will oversee vendor-neutral governance of TRACE, which is crucial as organizations increasingly deploy AI in sensitive environments.
