Lloyd’s Register (LR) has partnered with Marlink to enhance cybersecurity and connectivity in maritime digital systems. This collaboration is part of LR's Digital Transformation Research Programme, focusing on the complexities of managing digital systems aboard ships. Initial research will address how responsibilities are shared among shipowners, system integrators, and classification societies, especially as regulatory expectations evolve. The project will leverage insights from a shipowner involved in newbuilding, covering the entire lifecycle from design to recycling. Findings from LR’s Digital Maturity Index indicate that while connectivity and cybersecurity are advancing, significant gaps remain between ambition and execution. Both companies aim to provide actionable insights to help the maritime industry navigate digital transformation securely and effectively.
