Malaysia's OMS Group Acquires USVs for Subsea Cable Surveys

Malaysia's OMS Group has announced the acquisition of two uncrewed surface vessels (USVs) from French manufacturer Exail to enhance subsea cable infrastructure installation. The first vessel, named USV Elite, is set to launch in June 2026. These USVs will conduct seabed surveys, route verification, and monitoring, boasting an operational endurance of up to 30 days and a range of approximately 3,500 nautical miles. Equipped with advanced sensors like the Kongsberg EM124 multibeam echo sounder, the vessels will provide high-resolution mapping for large-scale projects. OMS Group aims to improve data quality and operational safety during remote missions. Plans are also in place to integrate autonomous underwater vehicles and establish a remote operation center in Singapore. This acquisition aligns with the growing global demand for subsea digital infrastructure.
