On April 13, 2026, MDA Space Ltd. unveiled the MDA MIDNIGHT™, a space control platform aimed at defending critical space assets during the 41st Space Symposium in Colorado Springs. This maneuverable spacecraft is designed for rendezvous and proximity operations (RPO) to detect, identify, counter, and deter threats to satellites in low Earth orbit. The platform can perform various military missions, including on-orbit surveillance, satellite refueling, and asset relocation. MDA MIDNIGHT™ is equipped with advanced robotics and a suite of active and passive payloads, turning space domain awareness into actionable decision-making. The initiative responds to increasing threats to space infrastructure, as highlighted by a Secure World Foundation report on Global Counterspace Capabilities. MDA's CEO emphasized the necessity for enhanced protection of space assets, given the growing reliance on satellites for national security and economic prosperity.
