NITDA Warns of Cyber Threats Across Nigerian Government Agencies

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has emphasized the need for a coordinated cybersecurity approach among ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) in Nigeria. During a workshop in Abuja, NITDA's Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa, highlighted that cyber threats in one agency can compromise others, necessitating a unified defense strategy. He noted that Nigeria ranks among the top three most cyber-targeted countries in Africa, with cybercrime costing over $3 billion from 2019 to 2025. Inuwa stressed the importance of prevention over response, advocating for regular risk assessments and strong cybersecurity policies. The workshop aimed to enhance capacity building and intelligence sharing among participants. NITDA also plans to review its draft Regulatory Guidelines for Government Information Security Management during this event.
