Poland's state-owned Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe (PEJ) has submitted a construction permit application to the National Atomic Energy Agency (PAA) for the country's first nuclear power plant in Pomerania. The application, which includes over 40,000 pages of technical documentation, is a significant step toward enhancing Poland's energy security. The project will utilize three Westinghouse AP1000 reactors and aims for commercial operation by 2036. Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized the importance of this milestone for Poland's energy future. The PAA is expected to review the application and issue a decision within 24 months. The project has been in development since the selection of the reactor technology in November 2022, with various agreements signed to advance the planning and design phases. The construction is scheduled to begin in late 2028, contingent on receiving necessary permits.
