On June 6, 2026, police in Bungoma County arrested two suspects linked to a mobile phone theft and hacking syndicate. The operation, conducted in collaboration with M-KOPA Kenya Limited, resulted in the recovery of 91 mobile phones and cybercrime tools. The suspects had been under surveillance since 2025 and operated across Bungoma Township and Sang’alo. The recovered items included 38 M-KOPA HMD mobile phones and five specialized tools used for hacking. The police confirmed that numerous complaints from victims prompted the investigation. The suspects are currently in custody awaiting court proceedings. This incident follows a recent crackdown in Nairobi where five suspects were arrested for similar crimes.
