Roblox's automated scraping tool downloaded 145.5GB of 3D models from Open3DLab, SFMLab, and SmutBase on October 15-16, 2026. The bot, identified as a research tool, made 26,429 requests over 34 hours, accessing nearly the entire catalog of the sites. Of the 712 projects downloaded, 423 were licensed for non-commercial use, and 345 contained adult content. Open3DLab reported the incident on October 26, leading to Roblox's acknowledgment that the bot malfunctioned and was decommissioned. Roblox stated that the data collected was not used for AI training or any other purpose. The scraping activity disrupted access for regular users by saturating the sites' free download servers. Open3DLab had to block the crawler after it ignored their robots.txt file and continued to attempt downloads despite being denied access.
