Spire Global Achieves Single-Satellite RF Geolocation Breakthrough

Spire Global, Inc. has successfully demonstrated a single-satellite radio frequency (RF) geolocation capability, enabling the detection and geolocation of S-band and X-band radio frequency signals. This advancement allows for the identification of higher-frequency emitters using a single satellite, which traditionally required multiple satellites. The satellite used for this demonstration was launched in late 2025 as part of SpaceX’s Bandwagon-4 mission and was co-funded by the Government of Luxembourg through an ESA contract. The new capability is crucial for modern defense and security operations, enhancing Spire’s ability to deliver RF intelligence globally. Spire's RF geolocation now spans multiple bands, including VHF, UHF, GNSS L-band, S-band, and X-band, providing precise emitter locations and signal characteristics. This technology is expected to integrate seamlessly into existing geospatial intelligence workflows, improving monitoring and decision-making.
