The report, launched at the CAP's annual State of Piracy Roundtable, highlights that nearly 50% of illicit streaming applications tested contained malware capable of harvesting personal data and compromising devices. Consumers are often victims of scams, phishing attacks, and identity theft, with little recourse for recovery. The study emphasizes that piracy is not just a copyright issue but a serious consumer protection problem, as the same criminal networks behind piracy are also involved in broader cybercrime activities.
