SubCo, an Australian digital infrastructure firm, has announced plans for three new subsea cable systems in the Indo-Pacific, totaling over 40,000 km. The projects, APX North, APX East-2, and APX West, aim to enhance connectivity between Australia, Japan, Guam, and the US, driven by increasing demand for bandwidth due to AI technologies. Each system will feature 24 fiber pairs and is expected to be operational by 2029. APX North will connect Sydney to Japan via Guam, while APX East-2 links Guam to Los Angeles. APX West connects Perth to Singapore with branches to Jakarta and Batam. The company is finalizing arrangements for cable supply and expects to reach Contract in Force status by early 2027. Founder Bevan Slattery emphasized the critical need for robust subsea infrastructure to support AI applications. The announcement follows the existing Australia-Japan Cable and other regional connections.
