Türkiye has successfully delivered its first-ever military vessel, the Contraamiral Roman corvette, to Romania, marking a significant milestone in defense exports. President Erdoğan announced this achievement during a ceremony in Istanbul, emphasizing the importance of the defense contract with Romania. The corvette delivery signifies Türkiye's growing capabilities in the defense sector, with Erdoğan noting that the country is now the 11th largest defense exporter globally. Over the past two decades, Türkiye has increased the domestic contribution to its defense manufacturing from 20% to over 80%. The ceremony also included the commissioning of the TCG Koçhisar offshore patrol vessel for the Turkish Naval Forces. Erdoğan stated that Türkiye aims to enhance security in the Black Sea region through this cooperation with Romania. The country is currently producing over 50 warships, with more than 15 designated for export. This export reflects Türkiye's strategic shift in defense collaboration with NATO allies.
