UK Afghan Data Leak Exposes Lives to Danger Following Taliban Takeover

In 2022, a data breach by the UK Ministry of Defence exposed the personal information of 18,000 Afghans seeking resettlement, leading to severe consequences for those affected. A report by Refugee Legal Support revealed that among 231 individuals surveyed, 49 reported that friends or colleagues were killed in Afghanistan as a direct result of the breach. The findings were submitted to a House of Commons Defence Committee inquiry.
