The US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has issued new guidelines stating that AI systems cannot be recognized as co-inventors in patent applications. According to the USPTO, AI tools are considered similar to laboratory equipment and can assist in the inventive process, but do not hold legal status as inventors themselves.
