Asos has been hit by a cyberattack that poses a threat to its staff. The British fashion company has suffered a security breach, as indicated in a notice sent to its network of users and investors. The hackers asked the company’s data protection and information technology departments for their cooperation to prevent a data leak.
“Dear Data Protection Officer and Information Technology team at ASOS, we have completely compromised the Snowflake instance. Cooperate with us or we will leak it,” read the alert received by app users and addressed to the company’s data protection officer and technical specialists, referring to Snowflake, the cloud data storage company.
As a result, ASOS shares closed down 10.6%, at 449 pence ( $5.5), as shareholders sought to assess the consequences of an unusual and highly publicized security breach.
ASOS has stated that no sensitive data has been compromised, although customers’ names and information may have been affected
ASOS has stated that “we are investigating unauthorized activity related to third-party platforms we use to communicate with our customers,” and says it has taken “immediate steps to restrict access to the notification platforms and are working with our internal and external specialized advisors, as well as all relevant authorities.”
The company has stated that information regarding payment methods or passwords has not been compromised, although data such as customers’ names and information may have been affected.
“Our website and app are operating normally , with no disruption to our services, ” the group says.
