BlueHammer: Researcher drops Windows zero day exploit, says “I was not bluffing Microsoft”

New Delhi: A new Windows security issue is now out in the open, and it is already making noise in the cyber world. A zero-day flaw called BlueHammer has been released publicly, along with working exploit code. The problem is simple to understand but scary in impact. There is no patch yet.

What makes this case messy is how it came out. The researcher behind it, using the name Chaotic Eclipse, says the release was linked to frustration with how Microsoft handled the report. That tension is now spilling into the open, and users are stuck in the middle.

BlueHammer targets a weakness in Windows Defender linked processes. It allows what experts call privilege escalation. In plain words, someone with basic access can become admin level.

Once that happens, things can go wrong quickly.

Here is what attackers can do after gaining access:

Security expert Will Dormann tested the exploit and confirmed it works. He said, “..yeah, it works. Maybe not 100% reliably, but well enough…”

The exploit code is now live on GitHub and a personal blog. That means anyone can access it. Both researchers and attackers.

The researcher did not hold back. In a post, they said, “I was not bluffing Microsoft, and I’m doing it again.” Another line reads, “Unlike times, I’m not explaining how this works, yall geniuses can figure it out.”

There are signs of deeper issues here. Reports suggest disagreements with Microsoft’s Security Response Center, especially around strict reporting steps like video proof.

This is what security teams worry . 0-Days in the info-sec world is like finding gold. Attackers move fast in such cases. Ransomware groups can pick this up and use it in real attacks.

Microsoft has not released a patch yet. Until that happens, systems remain exposed.
