AI-generated microdramas featuring explicit content are proliferating on TikTok, with no effective age restrictions. These videos, originating from China's duanju industry, often depict sexual and violent scenarios, accessible to users as young as 13. TikTok's algorithm promotes this content based on user engagement, leading to further exposure of similar material. Reports indicate that these videos serve as advertisements for apps that create nonconsensual deepfakes, raising significant ethical and legal concerns. The AI detection firm Copyleaks has identified nearly 50 apps in the Apple App Store linked to these activities, prompting Apple to remove three such apps in July 2026. The lack of regulation and oversight allows for rampant distribution of explicit content, posing risks to minors who frequent the platform.
