A Chinese national, alleged to lead a hacking organization, was extradited from Thailand to South Korea on May 13, 2026. The suspect is accused of stealing over 38 billion won (approximately $25.4 million) from various victims, including K-pop star Jungkook, by hacking into websites of mobile carriers and public agencies from August 2023 to April 2025. The group used stolen personal data to access financial and cryptocurrency accounts, withdrawing large sums without authorization. Jungkook's securities account identity was stolen, and an attempt was made to steal shares worth 8.4 billion won ($5.6 million) from his agency, HYBE. Immediate action by his agency prevented financial losses. An accomplice was extradited in August 2025 and is currently on trial. South Korean authorities coordinated with Thai police for the extradition.
