Orange, Equitix, and MDM have formed a joint venture to develop the Pisces subsea cable system, a 3,125 km link connecting Ireland to France, Spain, and Portugal. The project aims to enhance digital connectivity for Ireland, reducing reliance on UK transit routes. The Pisces cable will feature 16 fiber pairs and is expected to be deployed by 2028, with significant funding from the EU's Connecting Europe Facility. The initiative is seen as critical for supporting Europe's AI ambitions and improving Ireland's role as a cloud and data center hub. The marine survey for the cable route was completed in August 2026, and engineering work is currently underway.
