On October 18, 2026, the Qubic network halted operations after an attacker drained 1,404 wallets, stealing approximately 2.94 trillion QU tokens worth $1.3 million. The theft occurred between 23:42 UTC on October 17 and 01:26 UTC on October 18, exploiting predictable wallet recovery seeds generated by older Apple devices and browsers. Qubic's developers confirmed that the vulnerability was not in the blockchain code itself but in the seed generation process. Following the attack, validators froze the network at tick 85,371,949, preventing further transactions. Most of the stolen funds remain on the network, with 87.1% immobilized and 12.9% frozen by the MEXC exchange. Affected users are advised to report the incident to local authorities. Qubic has since released a patch to correct the seed generation flaw.
