SSB Enhances Surveillance Against Transnational Crimes at India-Nepal-Bhutan Borders
Article Content
The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) is intensifying technology-driven surveillance along India's borders with Nepal and Bhutan to combat narcotics trafficking, arms smuggling, and human trafficking. This initiative is crucial for Assam, which serves as a gateway to the Northeast and faces increasing concerns over organized crime and contraband movement. The SSB is responsible for securing approximately 2,450 km of open international borders, making the India-Bhutan frontier particularly significant due to its proximity to Assam. Union secretary Govind Mohan emphasized the importance of balancing security with the legitimate movement of people and goods. The SSB is employing advanced technologies such as facial recognition systems, radars, and CCTV cameras to enhance surveillance capabilities. This renewed focus on border security is a response to evolving methods used by trafficking networks, which exploit the region's geographical connectivity.
Key Points: • SSB is enhancing surveillance along 2,450 km of open borders with Nepal and Bhutan. • The initiative targets narcotics trafficking, arms smuggling, and human trafficking. • Advanced technologies like facial recognition and CCTV are being deployed for border security.
