New data from the Internet Watch Foundation reveals a record number of British under-18s are facing sextortion, with reports of sexual coercion and extortion increasing significantly in 2026. Reports show that 462 cases have been confirmed in just six months, surpassing the total for all of 2025. Most victims are boys, and the extortion often involves threats to release nude images, which may have been taken by the victims themselves. Additionally, there are rising concerns about AI-generated or manipulated nude imagery, with hundreds of reports indicating that young people believe their images have been digitally altered. The IWF and Childline are working to support victims and remove illegal content. Experts emphasize the urgent need for nudity blocking technology on devices used by teens to prevent these incidents.
