Teesworks has sold 73.3 acres at Dorman Point to National Grid Electricity Transmission for the UK's largest electrical substation, to be constructed by Balfour Beatty. This substation, named Teesside Node A, will have an initial capacity of 1,440 MVA, providing power equivalent to that of Greater Manchester and Glasgow combined. It is strategically located beneath existing high-voltage transmission lines and is expected to come online by the end of 2029. The substation is part of a larger effort to enhance energy infrastructure in the Teesworks area, which is undergoing significant industrial development. River Power, which operates the local electricity network, has contracted for the additional capacity to meet future energy demands. The project highlights the integration of civils and electrical management in large-scale infrastructure development.
