A recent ServiceNow study reveals that 90% of organizations worldwide experienced an agentic AI security incident in the past year. The research surveyed over 3,700 global security leaders and found that only 13% of businesses maintain a defensible security posture. Alarmingly, just 36% of organizations managed to contain incidents within 24 hours. The incidents involve AI agents operating in environments like hospitals and factories, where ungoverned actions can have severe consequences. Additionally, 49% of organizations run between 100 and 999 AI agents, while 35% operate over 1,000. The report emphasizes the need for organizations to integrate governance into AI deployments to mitigate risks effectively. As AI agents increasingly interact with operational technology, the potential for serious incidents grows, necessitating stricter controls and oversight.
