UK Charges Five in Major Caller ID Spoofing Scheme Linked to Russian Coms

UK authorities have charged five individuals in connection with Russian Coms, a caller ID spoofing platform that facilitated over 1.8 million scam calls. The suspects, aged between 28 and 53, face charges including conspiracy to supply articles for use in fraud and converting criminal property. Russian Coms, established in 2020, allowed criminals to disguise their identities by spoofing numbers of legitimate organizations, leading to significant financial losses for victims. The platform was linked to an estimated £10 million in losses affecting around 170,000 victims worldwide. The National Crime Agency (NCA) previously shut down Russian Coms in March 2024, which had been used to make over 1.3 million calls to 500,000 unique numbers across 107 countries. The suspects are scheduled to appear in court on August 14, 2026.
